{"id":311,"date":"2010-09-27T14:19:42","date_gmt":"2010-09-27T13:19:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/philonfood.com\/?p=311"},"modified":"2010-09-27T14:19:42","modified_gmt":"2010-09-27T13:19:42","slug":"comer-en-menorca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/philonfood.com\/index.php\/2010\/09\/27\/comer-en-menorca\/","title":{"rendered":"Comer en Menorca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/fish_dish.jpg\"><\/a>I have just got back from a great break in Menorca.\u00a0 The sun, relaxation and lack of work were great &#8211; as of course was the food and drink.<\/p>\n<p>Staying with my cousins who know Menorca and meeting their friends, we were able to make the most of their culinary knowledge.\u00a0 We had serious amounts of sea food tapas, plenty of Spanish wine and beer, and a new one on me &#8211; pomada.\u00a0 Pomada seems to be what the local (and tourists in the know) drink.\u00a0 It is gin (from the island distillery) with lemonade (either\u00a0Fanta\u00a0 lemon, or the Spanish\u00a0Kass), ice\u00a0and a wedge of lime, and is perfect for warm evenings on the terrace.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight though has to be our visit to see my cousins\u2019 friends Victor and Jacky.\u00a0 They are ex-restaurateurs, and being from Menorca, Victor makes a mean paella.\u00a0 In their garden he has his \u201cfish kitchen\u201d &#8211; a separate out-building with a large well equipped kitchen on one side and a dining room on the other.\u00a0 I can only assume that he was banished from cooking fish in the house at some point, so in my view it is a great solution!\u00a0 Victor &amp; Jacky must have had around 18 of us over, and they created an amazing spread of food, including three separate paellas (meat, seafood and veg).\u00a0 And Jacky made the most amazing chocolate brownie (a cross between brownie and fondant pudding as it was sublimely melting in the middle). \u00a0As well as that they did some great appetisers using the Sobrassada (a soft cured Menorcan sausage) and Menorcan cheese.<\/p>\n<p>So thanks all for giving us such a great introduction in to Menorcan food, drink and hospitality.\u00a0 \u00a1Muchas gracias!<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-311 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/philonfood.com\/index.php\/2010\/09\/27\/comer-en-menorca\/great_company\/'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/great_company-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/philonfood.com\/index.php\/2010\/09\/27\/comer-en-menorca\/victor\/'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/victor-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/philonfood.com\/index.php\/2010\/09\/27\/comer-en-menorca\/fish_dish\/'><img width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/fish_dish-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have just got back from a great break in Menorca.\u00a0 The sun, relaxation and lack of work were great &#8211; as of course was the food and drink.
