{"id":492,"date":"2011-06-21T15:00:58","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T14:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/philonfood.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/21\/one-of-the-wests-newest-stars\/"},"modified":"2023-03-13T17:15:46","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T17:15:46","slug":"one-of-the-wests-newest-stars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/philonfood.com\/index.php\/2011\/06\/21\/one-of-the-wests-newest-stars\/","title":{"rendered":"One of the West&#8217;s newest Stars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/20110620-201618.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/philonfood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/20110620-201618.jpg\" alt=\"20110620-201618.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>There are only a few pubs in the UK that possess a Michelin Star, and the Pony and Trap in Chew Magna joined that exclusive club earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be put off by the rhyming slag connotation &#8211; there is nothing pony about this place.<\/p>\n<p>We went there with friends Lewis and Elly this weekend, getting there early evening which allowed us to appreciate the views across the sweepingly hilly fields.<\/p>\n<p>You may think of it as a pub, and the food and wine prices certainly are closer to nice pub than a good restaurant and the service unfussy, but the dishes aren&#8217;t your average pub nosh.<\/p>\n<p>Our starters of River Axe mussels and roasted plaice with butter and capers were simple but well executed. As for my main of scallop, pork belly and turbot on a bed of samphire, everything was perfectly cooked from the sticky belly to the just-cooked seafood. My orange and polenta cake was nice, but the shortbread and strawberry milkshake that came with the pistachio parfait were the stars of the dessert course.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen mixed reviews.
