Saturday: Wild Garlic and Other Wild Treats

On Saturday we went out driving around the south Wales border with our guests, and came across some wild garlic (ramsons) which aren’t flowering yet but the leaves were nice and fresh, so I just had to pick some.  So, that gave me the excuse to do an improvised wild garlic risotto (with the stock I made from the day before’s left over pigeon) – it worked surprisingly well!

We also headed out to Tortworth Estate Farm Shop (Glos) to get some diced mixed game for a casserole (also using the stock and some red wine).  Again, because we were out most of the day, didn’t get the main to the table to midnight – oops!  K did rhubarb crumble with ginger ice cream – worked really well – a little ginger liquor finished it off nicely!

It is great that there seem to be an increasing number of farm shops and other independent outlets out there.  They need our custom, so don’t forget about them!
